I'm at a loss for words... who? How?

    We had a Mustang come into the shop one day with the right front wheel "frozen".

    The young lady driving it (yep, a blonde!) said she was "just driving along, and the tire locked up".

    She'd worn out the brake pad, AND the backing plate for the pad, and the piston in the caliper had dug so far through the disc that it got to the cooling fins, and jammed solid in the rotor.

    We asked her if she hadn't noticed anything 'funny" about the way the car was driving, and said no......

    Some people shouldn't be allowed to own cars........

  2. Reminds me of the time my brother-in-law's son complained that his car's engine started ticking not long after he had the oil changed. My brother-in-law asked him if he checked the oil level and his son said it shouldn't be necessary as he just had the oil changed. Not even showing on the stick.

    1. ever wonder why there is an oil pressure light for lack of any oil in the system, but nothing telling you that your oil level is low, or dangerously low, or "stop right now and add oil" low? With all the other nonsense that car makers have added to engine design, telling the car owner/operator how the oil is doing has been avoided.

  3. When my son was in college he called to say his Datsun was making a noise and would I come look at it. When I did I saw that no oil showed on the dip stick. When I asked him if he ever checked his oil he did not have a clue. He pretty much fried the engine. But it did teach him a lesson as he is much better at maintenance today.

    1. uh oh... college guy who didn't have a clue about keeping his car working. What caused that expensive lack of attention to his ride? Women, video games, or studies? Or, who am I kidding, college parties with beer and babes?

  4. I see a lot of this come into my friends shop. Honestly he could write a book on the cars he's worked on in his life, almost fifty years now. I remember one day seeing the rotor broken clean off the center. And no, the owner didn't want it fix at the time. They were more interested in fixing something more miner.
